The competition has closed and the very exciting results have been announced - see who has won!

Guess The Weight Of The Tools Competition Winners

We have been fundraising hard and we have almost enough to buy our replacement minibus...it has been an interesting journey involving many small grant applications, generous donations from previous OCVers, and a letter from David Cameron! A big thank you to all the people who have been involved, especially our van fundraising officers, Nathalie Marten and Phil Hunter, and OCV Chair, Jo Gay.

But we are not there yet! There are a number of important decisions to be made, such as choosing the make, model, best design of tool cage, and type of doors. Complex mathematics will be used to work out the optimum way of keeping the weight down whilst maximising the capacity for carrying volunteers and tools. (One option may be to ask us all to go on the OCV diet plan - no more chocolate biscuits at tea breaks from now on!)

Unpacking tools - I wonder how much they all weigh?

The tricky question of how many seats, people, and tools we can carry led Jo and Inigo to go to the tool shed one Saturday morning with a pair of bathroom scales to weigh all our tools. So if you ever wondered just how heavy the tea box really is...OK, to be honest, you probably haven't...but it would be a shame not to share our new-found geeky tool knowledge - so in the true spirit of a village summer fete, we are having a 'Guess the Weight of the Tools' competition.

Below is a list of common OCV tools. Guess the TOTAL weight of all the tools listed below in KILOGRAMS and email your answer to me before 31st July 2011 at newsletter@ocv.org.uk

The closest guess to the actual weight will win a fabulous prize! [Obviously Jo, Inigo and any other OCV committee members who have had sight of the tool weight spreadsheet are barred from entering - just saying!]

  • 1 x small drivall
  • 1 x wheelbarrow
  • 1 x mattock
  • 5 x 24" bowsaws
  • 2 x slashers
  • 2 x loppers

Get guessing, and good luck!
