I've been coming out to OCV tasks for the last three years now. If my memory serves me correctly, the first was path building at the Crecy Hill Local Nature Reserve in Tackley in 2007. Tackley is a great site to start with and path building remains one of my favourite tasks. From 2009, I was volunteering more regularly and helped out with the driving for the tasks. I then got more involved with the running of OCV by picking up the 'Webmaster' torch from Mike Green. To be honest, my web programming skills are slightly on the 'basic' side but I managed to fix some bugs, add a couple of enhancements and keep the site ticking over.

Earlier this year there was a bit of a reshuffle in the committee where Jo Gay, the previous chair, and I swapped roles. Already being part of the committee for a while made taking on the role of Chair easier, as did the gratefully received help from Jo. As Chair, I deal with enquiries that come in through the website and act as a spokesperson for OCV. However, the main function of the role is to chair OCV's monthly committee meetings, which is where most of the decisions behind its running take place. OCV has been running for a long while now so things tend to run relatively smoothly. The committee understand their responsibilities and roles and there is a good mixture of skills and experience in the group. The meetings are also usually followed by some drinks down the pub which adds incentive for everyone not to let the meetings overrun.

Personally, I've gained much experience from being involved with OCV over the last few years and it has been a great pleasure. For anyone who enjoys coming to our tasks and would consider getting more involved with OCV's running, either by leading, driving or joining our committee meetings, I would thoroughly recommend it.
