Meet The Committee

Return to Weasel Spring 2010

Recently we have had a number of changes to the OCV committee - people have left (mostly to go to Australia) and others have kindly joined (no arm twisting required).

So we thought it was a good time to update everyone on who we are and also, for added interest, our preferences for biscuits and drinks (in case you are feeling generous). It seems dark chocolate biscuits and tea win out as favourites.

We have regular committee meetings once a month in the Town Hall to make sure the group runs smoothly. If you'd like to come along and see how we run things, please feel free to join us. Alternatively, meet us when we go to the pub for a drink afterwards! Check the Events page for details.

Chairperson: Jo Gay as acting chairperson!

Task Programmer: Chris Skepper

Favourite biscuit: Plain chocolate Hobnobs.

Favourite conservation task: I like all of them, but particular favourites are hedgelaying, coppicing and fencing.

Favourite drink: Beer.

Random fact: I operate a nano-brewery, it's like a micro-brewery but smaller.

Membership Secretary: Jo Gay

Favourite biscuit: Pink wafer.

Favourite conservation task: SHEEP of course.

Favourite drink: Tea, tea, and more tea.

Random fact: I used to work for the Oxford English Dictionary and was in charge of over a hundred filing cabinets filled with about 10 million A5 'evidence slips', containing quotations, suggestions for new words, etymological descriptions, and corrections. Despite the advances of modern technology, OED revisers, researchers and the general public still create paper slips, and the collection is growing continuously.

Tools Officer: Tim Evans

Favourite biscuit: Dark chocolate digestives.

Favourite conservation task: Felling trees or special construction projects.

Favourite drink: Tea.

Random fact: I'm a world expert on using ice slurry to clean pipes.

Treasurer: Craig Waugh

Favourite biscuit: Those Viennese biscuits, half-dipped in chocolate, nyom nyom nyom!

Favourite conservation task: Slashin' and burnin'!

Favourite drink: Tea a la Kelly kettle obviously, failing that, good coffee.

Random fact: Surely being OCV treasurer is randomly interesting enough?!

Secretary: Nathalie Marten

Favourite biscuit: Speculoos.

Favourite conservation task: Construction tasks, in particular fencing.

Favourite drink: Elderflower cordial.

Random fact: I'm half English, quarter French, quarter Spanish but I was born and raised in Belgium.

Social Secretary: Naomi Berger

Favourite biscuit: Dark chocolate Hobnobs.

Favourite conservation task: Slash and burn.

Favourite drink: Current favourite alcoholic drink is Port. Non-alcoholic is always tea.

Random fact: I hate the taste of offal.

Web Master: Paul Clarke

Favourite biscuit: Garibaldi.

Favourite conservation task: One that involves a roaring fire.

Favourite drink: A pint of Tribute Ale from the St Austell Brewery.

Random fact: I absolutely adore peanuts but only if they're on their own. I can't stand them if they're mixed with anything else (such as chocolate, a dish of noodles etc).

Web Editor: Caroline Ruse

Favourite biscuit: The humble digestive.

Favourite conservation task: The great thing about OCV is that we have such varied work and I honestly can’t choose a favourite. As long as no standing around or sheep are involved I’m happy.

Favourite drink: Too close to call between water and Lovibonds Dark Reserve.

Random fact: I make greeting cards that are sold to raise funds for the Community Cancer Centre in Hillingdon. It’s more “cut and stick” than “slash and burn”, but just as fun.

Van Officer: Matt Cardy

Favourite biscuit: That's a tough one, I like Wagon Wheels and bourbons, but I think if I had to choose one desert island biscuit it would be a plain chocolate digestive.

Favourite conservation task: It would have to be pollarding. I love the devastation and having a big fire; you also get an amazing change after a day's work that you can look at with pride.

Favourite drink: Ah, so many to choose from, but chilli chocolate stout takes some beating.

Random fact: I'm originally an Essex boy from Colchester and I went to Sixth Form college with Dermot O'Leary.

Fundraising Officer: Kate Bone

Favourite biscuit: Garibaldi (squashed fly biscuits as they were known in our house growing up).

Favourite conservation task: Path building.

Favourite drink: Tea or mojito depending on the occasion.

Random fact: I have once had dinner delivered to me at sunset on the top of a mountain by helicopter (very nice burger and fries, still hot from the cafe they were picked up from).

Publicity Officer: Lydia Goodall

Favourite biscuit: Custard cream.

Favourite conservation task: Sheep (and fencing).

Favourite drink: Tea.

Random fact: I can make fire by friction.

Weasel Editor: Michelle Reid

Favourite biscuit: Dark chocolate digestives.

Favourite conservation task: Ponds or clearing streams.

Favourite drink: Wine...cider...rum! Basically anything that isn't beer.

Random fact: I feature in a music video for Frank Turner's song "Nashville Tennessee".
