Conservation Couture The Results

Return to Weasel Winter 2011

In the previous edition of the Weasel we set up a survey to see what colours and clothing items you might want adorning your hardworking OCV backs this season...

And the results are....inconclusive! Only 4 people answered the survey, which means we can't really make any generalisations - except maybe to conclude that you're an easy going bunch that don't mind what you're wearing while slashing brambles (as long as you are indeed wearing something!)

Here are the survey results:

What colour would you like the next OCV clothing item to be?

Colour
Number of votes
Burgundy
2 (50%)
Brown
1 (25%)
Other
1 (25%)

The most interesting result was in the comments left by the Other response:

'Octarine, or failing that, Hooloovoo. if you insist that is impossible, a shade of goldenrod would be rather nice.'

What? ..... I don't think Octarine and Hooloovoo show up on the usual Pantone colour charts - is someone suggesting we use fantasy or science-fictional colours for our clothes?

Artist's impression of Octarine

Octarine (from Terry Pratchett's Discworld series): The colour of Magic and the eighth colour of the Discworld rainbow. On the Discworld, magical discharges are often accompanied by a release of the highest-energy light which is Octarine in colour. Describing it is impossible, but think of it like a kind of greenish-yellow-purple!

Artist's impression of Hooloovoo

Hooloovoo (from Douglas Adams' The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy ): A hyper-intelligent shade of the colour blue.

Someone seems to have thrown down the gauntlet, so I am hoping our next OCV garments are made in a nice shade of Infrablack:

Infrablack (from Terry Pratchett's and Neil Gaiman's Good Omens): It can be seen quite easily under experimental conditions. To perform the experiment simply select a healthy brick wall with a good run-up, and, lowering your head, charge. The colour that flashes in bursts behind your eyes, behind the pain, just before you die, is infrablack.

But what type of garments would they be? Again the results are inconclusive:

Item of Clothing
Number of votes
Bag
1 (25%)
Long Sleeved T-Shirt
1 (25%)
Waterproof Jacket
1 (25%)
Other ('T-Shirt or perhaps Rugby Shirt')
1 (25%)

As the results are probably not a representative sample of OCV opinion, we have re-opened the survey - which can be accessed here:

So if you don't want to be wearing an OCV bag that doubles as a waterproof jacket in a shade of hyper-intelligent blue with a witty slogan on the back...please get voting now! (Actually, that sounds kind of useful, can we have some?)
